Frequently
Asked Questions:
How do I use Check my English?
Simply send us your text or document by e-mail
to
newdocument@checkmyenglish.dk
If you are a first time user, please include details of your
organisation, address and telephone number. You can expect a reply within 2
working hours, including a price and expected turnaround time. Most short texts
are checked and returned within a few hours, longer texts may take a couple of
days. We are flexible and generally align ourselves to our clients' deadlines.
Who are our clients?
Our clients are business and public sector executives, academics and
other professionals who write in English as a foreign language. Typical
documents include e-mail texts, letters, applications, reports, brochures and
web text.
How good does my written English need
to be to use Check my English?
If you can understand this website, the chances are that your English is
good enough to be checked by us. You need to be able to write understandable
English text. If we feel that we cannot help you, due to the quality of your
English, we will let you know – free of charge.
Can you translate a foreign text into
English?
Yes, but translation is not our core business. We are prepared to
consider translation work upon special request. Send us an e-mail with your
enquiry.
What does it cost?
All jobs are priced individually. The price is, however, based on the
number of typed characters in the text, excluding spacing. We use Microsoft
Word to calculate the number of characters in a document. The price of your job
will be confirmed by e-mail shortly after we have received the document. For
more information and a guide to pricing see Payment.
How do I pay?
We will send you an invoice once your document has been checked and
returned. A monthly or quarterly client account can be run upon request. New
clients may be requested to initially pay in advance. Payment is by bank
transfer or PayPal.
Can I pay by credit card?
Not directly. We have experimented with on-line credit card payment, but most of
our clients run, or are employed by, businesses and public sector
organisations, and are not very interested in this option at the present time.
We have, therefore, chosen to keep things simple for the time being and send
out invoices. Alternatively, you can use your credit card via PayPal.
What if I don’t like or understand my
checked text?
Clients are always welcome to request a clarification via e-mail if they
do not understand any corrections to their text. All changes will be registered
in the document, where the file format allows this. We have a general policy of
not charging unhappy clients – fortunately, this has not happened yet!

In which file format should I attach my
document?
That is entirely up to you. We use Microsoft Office and Word as our
standard text editor. Short texts can also be sent directly as an e-mail. Avoid
sending too many unnecessary diagrams and pictures that do not require
checking.
What kind of text do you check?
All kinds of English. If the legal, scientific or technical content is
too specialised to benefit from our service, your text will be returned without
charge. Clearly, we are not interested in checking texts containing offensive
material.
